Significance of the Ghost to William Shakespeares Hamlet Essay

Significance of the Ghost to William Shakespeare's Hamlet In Shakespeare's 'Hamlet', the ghost plays a key role in influencing the destinies of the other characters. The ghost is important to the play as it symbolizes both fate and catalyses the plot. It also brings the play into the revenge tragedy genre, which allows foreshadowing to occur and helps the audience, both Elizabethan and contemporary to better understand the play and appreciate it. The late King Hamlet is forced to roam the earth as he was murdered before he could confess to his sins, having to remain in purgatory till his sins are washed from him and he is able to enter into heaven. Hamlet, the tragic hero of the play, and is influenced by the encounter with whom he believes to be his late father, the ghost. Hamlet was both horror-struck and mortified to hear of his father's betrayal. He immediately felt that he must avenge his father and this reveals the role of the ghost, who is able to affect the protagonist. Hamlet is instructed to punish Claudius, the late King Hamlet's brother and murderer. The ghost reveals that Claudius, by killing his own brother, has committed a, "murder most foul," and deserves to die. Written during the first part of the seventeenth century, the tragic endings of revenge plays were pre-ordained by the church and state expectations. Revenge was deemed acceptable only if the avenger died at the end of the play. Only by dying could someone be forgiven for the immoral and illegal act of revenge. Hamlet is placed in this situation by the ghost, who orders him to act against his conscience, and the diametrically opposed commands paralyze hi... ... that the ghost is simply a convention of Elizabethan drama, but although the ghost motif had been used in many dramas of the period, none appeared so ambiguous as the ghost of King Hamlet. This essay illustrates that here may be many interpretations of the ghost, and that these different aspects may affect our understanding of the play. The dual nature of the ghost is reflective of the dual nature of man. The ghost's ambiguities are essential in heightening the tragic element of the play. In embracing the ghost, Hamlet embraces both good and evil. Coffee delight Essay

I agree with Lisa’s view to a certain extent that the marketing budget is the most important component in the marketing plan. Harry has set a market objective of two million subscribers by 2015; a target that is very ambitious to achieve a fifth of the forecasted market share which is seen as very unrealistic with a basic marketing budget and Robert media plc will need to do a higher proportion on research than normal which will cost a lot more than usual. Another reason why the marketing budget is so important is that Roberts’s media is changing from print format to digital as they seek to achieve their object of increasing ROCE to 8%. Digital media is a new market for the business and therefore will need extensive research to see what the target markets’ needs and wants are. Although the marketing department had previously won awards for the way it promoted print magazines, but was concerned that the new technology would require a very different approach. As digital is completely different to print media, it obviously needs research conducted. However, Harry is being stubborn and dismissive stating that the marketing budget is un-important and will not provide additional funds. This could therefore mean that the businesses target the wrong people and that their objective to increase the ROCE to 8% could be dented and un-applicable. The rivals of Roberts media plc are already one step ahead of the business as they were already launching their own digital magazines within the next sic months and had already started their marketing campaign. This will have a big effect on the Roberts media as their targeted customers are already being targeted by rivals which could therefore mean fewer sales in the future. As the business is behind its rivals, a big promotional campaign will be needed in order to attract potential customers away from rivals. A big promotional campaign will require a big marketing budget but is what is needed in order to out beat its competitors in the race for customers. However, I agree with Harry not to provide addition funds to the marketing budget as the financial situation of the business is not very stable at this moment in time. The return on capital has fallen from 10% to 2% meaning that it will not be wisely to invest as it’s not really worth it to invest. Along with the poor state of ROCE, the current ratio is also in a bad state fallen from 1. 5:1 to 0. 5:1. This means for every 50p of current assets the business had ? 1 of liability. Having such a poor financial position will rupture the finance available and will need to use the scares finance available wisely. To conclude, I certainly agree with Lisa that the business’s marketing budget is the most important feature on the marketing plan. This major change from print to digital will cost a lot and will be in need of a big marketing budget to be successful. Also, Roberts media is already behind its rivals on its marketing and therefore will need something big to attract customers. Finally, Harry has set a very ambitious objective and therefore it will need a big marketing budget to be able to fulfil its purpose. Although the financial state of the business is poor, harry will need to help its marketing team and provide which they feel what is needed as the long run.

Customer Relationships Management - 2150 Words

Customer relationship management (CRM) is a business philosophy and set of strategies, programs, and systems that focuses on identifying and building loyalty with a retailer’s most valued customers (Levy, Weitz 275). A loyal customer is one who is committed to purchasing merchandise and services from a specific retailer, he or she resists the efforts of competitors, and also has an emotional attachment to a retailer. The four steps involved in the formation of a CRM program are collecting customer data, analyzing customer data, developing a CRM program, and implementing the CRM program. Implementing CRM programs can be extremely beneficial in increasing business and creating/maintaining a competitive edge. Ritz-Carlton looks forward with CLASS with ample hopes and expectations. Their vision is that all employees, in time, will be able to access CLASS directly. Furthermore, Ritz-Carlton is looking into implicating technology into their employees’ routine responsibilities. They’re exploring the benefits of utilizing portable hand-held devices. This utilization will aid company-wide access to the database. While CLASS has provided the Ritz-Carlton with a system of consistency, the technology would be worthless without their staff. As corporate manager of guest recognition points out, Our people supply the initial information that is added to the system as well as carry out the services detailed within the system. Interaction Between The Roman And Celtic Civilizations

Interaction between the Roman and Celtic civilizations Between 750 BC and 12 BC the Celts were the most powerful people in Northern central Europe. The Celts consisted of a number of tribes that all spoke a similar common language as well as sharing common elements of culture and art but were not a cohesive group like the Romans or Egyptians. The Celts were widely spread through Europe from the British Isles to Galatia more commonly known today as Austria, Switzerland, southern France and Spain, these areas consisted of multiple different political organisations ruled by various leaders. North west Europe was inhabited by three main Celtic groups; The Gauls who lived in ancient France, Britons who lived in Great Britain and Gaels who lived in Ireland. The Celts were first mentioned in Greek written sources around 500 BC when they were referred to as Keltoi. Other sources such as those of the Romans also mention the Celtic groups for example texts from Alexander the Great. When the Romans invaded and Conquered Europe most of Celtic cultu re, history and technology was destroyed, the only elements surviving were those such as their language. Much if not all of the interaction between the Romans and Celts was based on conflict, battles and wars between the two groups occurred frequently, generally as a result of one group wanting the others resources, land and slaves, as well as riches such as, iron, lead, zinc, copper, silver and gold. Forecast sales growth rate As one of the most important indicators, sales can reflect directly Myer’s financial performance and influence other indicators. Therefore, the forecast of sales growth rate is the foundation for forecasting Myer. Assuming 1.1 forÃŽ ²means the fluctuation of Myer share price is a little stronger than the market but not too much . Therefore, cost of capital (Re) is calculated by the formula and equals to 11.65%. This Re is used in DDM and DAE. Areas of analysis include: †¢ Differentiating types of usage. †¢ For items with recurring usage, identify the best forecast formula from among nine methods preloaded into the spreadsheet; calculate the forecast and suggested replenishment parameters. †¢ For items with sporadic usage, calculate normal quantity sold/used in one transaction as well as minimum and maximum quantities. Compare your current inventory value, turnover and return on investment to potential â€Å"ideal† values. You can then see how varying safety stock and other parameters will affect your service level and inventory investment. †¢ Employ user maintained controls to smooth out unusually high or low usage. †¢ Graphically review the history and suggested replenishment parameters of a specific item comparing the results of all 11 forecasting methods. †¢ Compare the current and potential values of these key metrics: †¢ Inventory turnover †¢ Turn/earn index †¢ Gross margin return on investment Adjusted gross margin (i. e. , gross margin considering your average inventory investment) †¢ Percentage of excess inventory †¢ Planned excess (what vendors force you to buy in excess of what you need). Spreadsheet 2: Price Break (Item) If a vendor offers you a lower price per piece for a larger purchase quantity, is it a good deal? This spreadsheet will help you make an intelligent decision. It compares the lower cost per piece to the cost of carrying inventory for a longer period of time. It also takes into account the lower reordering cost per unit resulting from the purchase of larger quantities. The price break that provides the lowest Total Cost/Piece represents the â€Å"best buy† quantity. Spreadsheet 3: Price Break (Vendor Line) This spreadsheet compares the discount you will receive to the cost of carrying each purchase quantity for the length of time necessary to sell the entire amount (based on your current overall forecast for the vendor line). The result is a calculation of how much each dollar’s worth of inventory will cost when you consider both the discount and carrying cost. The lower the cost of a dollar’s worth of material, the better the deal. Spreadsheet 4: Price Break (Terms/Freight) With this spreadsheet, you will be able to consider freight, terms discounts and extended terms to decide which of three entered purchase quantities represents your â€Å"best buy† quantity. Spreadsheet 5: Value of Lost Inventory This spreadsheet determines the amount of additional sales your company must generate to make up for the value of material that is lost, stolen or otherwise unusable. Each of the spreadsheets is provided on a single CD-ROM, along with hard copies of the spreadsheets, and detailed instructions, all packaged in a sturdy binder. Romeo Juliet and Westside Story Essay Example For Students

Romeo Juliet and Westside Story Essay The plays Romeo and Juliet and Westside Story have many similarities and differences. One major compare and contrast in the two, are the main characters. Tony, one of the main male characters in Westside Story, is comparable to Romeo; Maria of Westside Story, is comparable to Juliet. Some of the other comparable characters include: Anita to the nurse, Riff to Mercutio, and Bernardo to Tybalt. Tony and Romeo have many similarities, however, there are also some differences. They both fall in love with a girl from a totally different social group. Both of the men are in groups that are rivals of the group hat their lover is in. When Romeo confides in his friend the Friar, and Tony to the candy store owner, both men have a similar reaction but agree to help in any way possible. When Romeo gets married to Juliet, the Friar marries them. When Tony marries Maria, they say their vows to each other, with nobody else around. Also, in Romeo and Juliet, the Friar works out the plan for them to be together. In Westside Story, it is Maria and Tony the make up the plan. At the end of A Westside Story Tony is killed by Chino, who is compared to Paris. However, in Romeo and Juliet it is Romeo who kills Paris. Maria, of Westside Story, is also much like Juliet. However, there are more differences between Juliet and Maria, than there are between Romeo and Tony. Maria, instead of having a nurse, has her friend, Anita, who helped her through her youth. In Romeo and Juliet, Juliet fakes her death by drinking a potion given to her by the Friar, and awaits Romeo in the family tomb. In Westside Story, Maria becomes angry, because she is told that Tony was killed by Chino; when in fact, Tony was still alive. When Maria heard the news of Tony s death, she went looking for Chino to kill her, too. To Maria s surprise, while she is searching the streets for Chino, she finds Tony, who is then shot and killed by Chino. The biggest difference between Maria and Juliet, is that in the end of Romeo and Juliet, Juliet commits suicide when she finds Romeo dead. Whereas, in Westside Story, Maria is never killed. She does, however, plead to be killed also, so she could be with Tony, as well as, threatening to kill all the men that had anything to do with the violence. The other comparable characters were harder to notice the differences because they did not have such large parts. However, there are still major differences and similarities. Riff, being compared to Mercutio, was sort of the leader. He was also the first to be killed within the gang. Bernardo, being compared to Tybalt, had a hot temper, and became violent easily. Bernardo was Maria s cousin, and Tybalt was Juliet s cousin. Bernardo was killed in the rumble, and so was Tybalt. Finally, there are many comparisons and contrasts between the two plays. Between characters, as well as plot. Although some of them are very small, they make the two very much different.
